When I immigrated to Canada 12 years ago, I was astonished to find myself in a place where pursuing film as a career was encouraged.
But like every immigrant experience, a difficult rebirth lay ahead: culturally, economically, and socially.
Leili’s Photo is about those early years of immigration, when you’re running as fast as you can to catch up with everybody, re-evaluating your priorities, and re-discovering your community. Hope you enjoy!

Maral is a writer and director based out of Toronto Canada, born to a nomadic Qashqai tribe in southern Iran.
She makes allegorical comedies, and holds a BFA in Film from Toronto Metropolitan University.
